Slate, Lapis,
and Gold Pin By Keith Farley
|

Slate and 14 karat gold pin
with lapis lazuli and 22 karat gold leaf
|
|
|
Slate is a most
interesting type of stone to work with. Aside from the
incredible way that it fragments, it provides a wonderfully
textured charcoal gray surface that looks great when
juxtaposed to materials and surfaces without texture or with
less neutral coloration than that of the slate.
This pin is comprised
of a carefully broken piece of slate
and a 14 karat gold bezel that holds a piece of
lapis.
Along select edges, I applied 22 karat gold leaf as a method
of bringing further visual energy to the
piece.
